When so enabled by the user, the AirCompare app can access and utilize the user’s HomeKit database information. The accessories identified by the user, typically a thermostat and a window or fan, may be placed under the control of the AirCompare app. The user may opt out of either feature and may disable HomeKit access entirely. HomeKit information is needed to interact with the user’s HomeKit database but otherwise is not transmitted, stored or shared outside the app.
The AirCompare app collects and uses a small amount of private location information if the user enables the app access to Location Services. (The user can opt out.) Specifically, the location of the user at startup and the user-provided location of the user’s home are used to determine if the user is home or away. After startup, AirCompare does not monitor or share the user’s location information. The app requests to receive an alert from iOS when the user’s user-defined geofence has been entered or exited. This information is used only to update the home-or-away determination within the app and no more specific location information is recorded.
Additionally, the location of the user’s home, as provided by the user, is used to localize weather information. The home location is submitted to the weather website of the user’s choice, as part of a request for local weather. This is the only location information that is transmitted outside of AirCompare.
AirCompare fetches weather and electric rate information (where available) by accessing the appropriate websites. Beyond the control of AirCompare, any activity on the internet can reveal the approximate location of the user through their IP address.
No other personal information about the user (such as name, address, phone number, etc.) is used or transmitted by the app in any way.
The AirCompare app creates and writes to a log file stored within the app, for the potential purpose of analyzing and debugging any problems with the app. The file records the progress of the app as it performs various duties. This is a rolling log file that destroys old information and typically stores only the last few weeks of logging (depending on usage). The log file will record the user’s chosen settings and preferences for the app, including any selected HomeKit settings. The log may contain dated location information. The log does not record other personal information (name, address, phone number, etc.). The file is user-readable and editable.
The log file can only be accessed with specialized software under control of the user on a personal computer linked to the iOS device, if the user so desires, typically to assist us in fixing any problems and improving the app.
